Hi,
Thanks for your post. A few weeks back I bought a 1997 Civic LX. It has an aftermarket radio/CD player, and like your daughter's car, the domelight in mine does not work in the "center" position when the doors open. I am guessing it is the same problem. I wonder if there is a fix apart from replacing the aftermarket radio with a factory radio? More investigation ahead...at any rate, I enjoyed your post and was glad to hear I wasn't going crazy trying to troubleshoot this thing! Take care, Mike

Hi again,
Just a quick update ... I found several posts on Honda Civic forums that offered a way to correct the problem without re-installing a factory radio. The fix is to jump (splice) the light green wire with a red stripe to the light green wire with a black stripe. Both of these wires can be found on one of the green plastic connectors from the main wiring harness. This green plastic connector is normally plugged into the factory radio, but aftermarket radios do not have a place for it, thus the "broken" connection with the domelight. I read too that cars having keyless entry are affected by this problem.

At any rate, I just tried this on my car and it worked. The dome light now comes on when one of the doors is opened.
